This
is "Ace," my wonderful little friend who used to
live at the refuge. I 'm honored she chose me to be her human.
She brings me a great deal of peace, joy and inspiration.
My world would be far less beautiful without her in it.

We
definitely feel one of the most remarkable gifts given us as beings
living on this Earth is the companionship of the other living creatures
with whom we share the planet. I have a particular soft spot for birds-wild,
intelligent, affectionate, beautiful, free, themselves given the gift
of song.... Sadly, there are many birds bred or brought into this
country and sold as pets to people who do NOT understand or at some
point become unable to uphold the committment involved in bringing
a bird into the family. Fortunately for a number of these displaced
avian souls, there is a refuge in Northbrook, IL doing wonderful work
to help restore their bodies and spirits and find them the safe, loving
homes they need. If you have space and time enough in your home and
heart, plus a good avian vet on hand, please consider submitting an
