The Scientists are the last underclass on
twenty-second century Earth. They are vastly outnumbered and disdained by the non-techs, for whom none of the wonders produced by the scientists are ever quite wondrous enough.
It's an age in which the masses demand everything be
push-button easy. While the scientists obviously have the power of knowledge on their side, their numbers are dwindling simply because of a spreading unwillingness to bear the stigma of scientific knowledge. The scientists who remain are spread thin and Earth is in danger of losing all humankind has worked millennia to achieve. There is growing dissent even within scientific ranks, while non-tech society is rapidly degenerating to chaos. It's a vulnerable time for Earth and there are those in the universe always on the lookout for what appears easy prey.

It begins...

The two men knew they had to move quickly. There was no margin for error. They had been watching her for quite a while and had seen enough to make them more than a little nervous. Her powers had grown and were growing still. While uncertain of her exact progress, they knew, for now, she still seemed to need a little time to consciously focus those powers in order for them to work. They hoped that fact would buy them enough time. Silence, speed and mechanical adherence to the plan were all that could prevent a complete disaster.
